Simone Monasebian - CPO for Sanctuary for Families
A civil and human rights attorney for over three decades, Simone Monasebian is now the Chief Program Officer (CPO) for Sanctuary for Families, an organization that assists survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and gender-based violence. As CPO, Simone Monasebian supervises the management and strategy development of the organization’s programming.
Simone Monasebian's programming responsibility relates to shelter, counseling, workforce development, and case management. She contributed to Sanctuary for Families, helping over 8,000 adult and child survivors of gender-based violence at its 12 locations throughout New York City. Her work also helped the organization with advocacy, outreach, education, and training for 11,000 community members.
Also a civil and human rights advocate, Ms. Monasebian has written extensively on the subject, with her research appearing in the New York Bar Association Criminal Justice Journal; Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law; and the Proceedings of the American Society of International Law Annual Meeting, among other publications and books. She has also had an opinion piece published in the New York Times. Her work as a criminal defense attorney was praised in the preface to Kenneth Wooden's award winning book "Weeping In The Playtime Of Others" (2d. Ed)
Ms. Monasebian is also an at-large member of the Council on International Affairs of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. She is a member of the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association.
Ms. Monasebian has a bachelor’s degree in pre-law from New York University and a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law. Her hobbies are kayaking, snowshoeing, reading poetry, and listening to old school hip-hop, rhythm and blues, and soul music. She currently resides in New York City.
